I started this.... and I know promoters try to work out competing events when meeting (this includes some deference to established events) . It happens and promoters work together to minimalize the conflicts. But the landowners also have input as Kenji pointed out. Sometimes we just have to choose which one to attend. Compromise (something our politicians might learn to do).
For us in OBRA land this does equal options.... and teaching us to make decisions.
Now go ride and train for the one you are going to attend.

At risk of be labuoring the point, there were no competing cross events last weekend. There were events for various disciplines and geographies, which is fantastic. My broader point is that there are promoter meetings held where the calendar is discussed/debated, which help prevent things like this. Smaller races can go from break-even/small profit to loss making when stuff like this happens which is a lose/lose for both promoters. All I was suggesting is that when when a win/win can't be found, that events that have a history and are part of a broader series would prevail.
All that said, racing bikes is fun and it is great to see Oregon has a problem of such abundance. Now if only I could get OBRA to take over British Cycling . . . it's almost as bad as USAC ;-)

Agreed, it's unfortunate when a promoter has a competing event but that's reality and OBRA is set up to handle multiple events on the same day. In this case, there was plenty of communication and effort to find other dates but it didn't work. So now we have options! Options are good right?

Last Saturday saw 4 competing events. There are schedule conflicts all the time. Very few of them are competing for the sheer number of racers that come out for cross, especially in the Portland area. I really don’t see that this is really a big deal. As cross continues to escalate, promoters will continue to compete for dates and venues to draw racers. As a racer, this opens lots of opportunity.
Thanks

Not to stir the pot, but I'd say since Apple Core is 1) a return event and 2) part of a series that the Edgefield event should move dates or cancel. Promoters of existing events should get some level of deference. It's one thing to have another event 200+ miles away and something different to have one right up the road. I'm sure both promoters are trying to make it work for everyone, just saying if they can't find a compromise . . . it should be 'how do ya like dem apples?'
That my £0.02,

Hey Ron-
I hadn't forgotten about this e-mail. We've been in the background
trying to reschedule stuff.
Unfortunately there's a confluence of issues.
For Applecore we thought about moving it to Oct 1st but turns out with
the Orchard there's some activities going on that wouldn't be
conducive to having the race then. We also thought about a week later
in Nov. but the issue for the venue is that there's a lot of equipment
that is still there from the EZ Orchards Halloween celebration that we
get to use. A week later and it's gone.
We definitely tried to work with the Edgefield folks but I guess
Edgefield has another event the next week too.
So- we're sorta stuck. Thoughts?
