Yep, the Golden Rule still applies - "Do unto others..." Y'all know the rest.

Great, thanks for doing that.
Remember that people really appreciate a "thank you" if they stop for you, give you a little extra room, or be polite. This is how people will keep doing little favors like that, and give cyclists a better rep around town.
Just think about it, if you stop (while you're driving) for a person trying to cross the street and they just walk out and don't acknowledge you at all, you might not stop for the next pedestrian trying to do the same. If that person was to wave or say thanks, you are more likely to stop for the next pedestrian.

I don't want to get too sappy, but on my lunch workout today I had a great experience with a driver from G&J Carpet Cleaning. So good that I actually decided to write the following on the company's "Contact Us" link on their website. Thankfully, there are some courteous people out there. Now, everyone get those police reports filed with either or both Multnomah and Washington County!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During my lunch time bike workout today that included a few trips up Rocky Butte, a van driver approached me from behind just before going through the tunnel. I was a little concerned because this portion of the road is the one potentially dangerous spot due to the lack of shoulder, curb median, and inadequate lighting levels.
The driver of the van waited at least 75 feet behind me until we were clear of the tunnel and there was adequate sight distance ahead to pass. As he passed, I waved to say thanks and noted the G&J company name on the van.
I just want to say that I greatly appreciate his courteous behavior. This is great PR for your company and if I'm looking for carpet cleaning in the future I will certainly remember this good act.
Cheers -
John
