Just back from the Scappoose trail area and want to give a heads up regarding upcoming Herbicide application. On the South side of the road, where we re-opened the trails with Longview permission is where the spraying will take place. It will happen sometime between 9/6/11 and 10/7/11. Usually they do it with helicopters during times of little to no wind. The long period of time gives them an adequate chance to get the calm conditions so the spray does minimal drifting.
I think once it is applied, people could ride without problem, but I would advise NOT taking your dogs along as they get much more up-close with the chemicals...and your vet bills increase as well as dogs life might be shortened.
My guess is they will re-plant the area once we get into the rains of fall.....Nov. or Dec. If we get a couple of good rains this month (last I heard that was not in the forecast) the area might not even need closure because of high fire danger.
