Dear OBRA members in the Portland metro area and Gorge area...... New
Trails to be constructed in the Cascade Locks vicinity.
The City of Cascade Locks has entered into an agreement with Northwest Trail
Alliance (NWTA) to develop trails right in the Port area. These will be
constructed in stages with the easiest one first. There will be several
that will eventually connect to some of the established mtb and road rides
in the area.
NWTA is holding a Trail Work Party on October 15 and 16 that includes free
camping. The idea is to have a wide range of riding opportunities. The
attached file has some information about the work party. If you and or your
friends or family can help out this worthy project, it will much appreciated
not just by the others out there working then riding, but the future users
as the whole system gets developed. If you are not racing that weekend or
just racing one day, consider a helping hand to project that will show
riders are willing to put in sweat equity to not just help their access
issues, but to help a community find positive ways to drive there local
economy. Think how great it would be to take the family just an hour or so
away and spend a weekend on trails and paths that met the individual needs
from drops to a paved surface. Remember this folks. Even if you show up
and help for one or two hours, that is huge! Nobody expects you be at every
work party for the rest of your life. It is about doing what you
can.....and honestly I remind you again that membership in NWTA makes the
organization have a stronger voice when meeting with agencies, landowners,
state, county and city officials. When you join NWTA you also receive a
membership to IMBA which speaks on behalf of smart access around the globe.
It is not a huge black hole of an organization, but like NWTA (and other
local groups) one that really focuses on getting trail in place and thus
riders a place to ride. Andy Jansky is an amazing person committed to this
goal! He is the main reason we had a chance to rebuild/open trail out at
Scappoose because he is developing a good relationship with landowners.
Congrats to all who showed up to help that project by the way! Huge
success!!!! OBRA had a very good showing.
PLEASE SHARE THE LOAD if you can and any way you can!
Check out the attachment, NWTA website and or contact Andy via the
information below. I think they are going to have the new trail building
machine at the build event, so the "heavy work" can be done by machine.
Thanks so much for reading and considering helping. If you cannot help at
this time, keep the door open............your kids need trail to ride in the
future....someone needs to build and maintain it......................US.

Ron,
Can you help me get the word about this? Maybe your friends at ORBA?
