Subject: Oregon Manifest and The Ultimate Utility Bike

Dear Bike + Design friends,

Only a week to go!

Since February, 37 bespoke bike craftsmen, designers, and student teams have
been hard at work creating a new bike for the modern daily rider. Next
Friday, we'll see the results of this challenge to create the Ultimate
Utility Bike. The Oregon Manifest Constructor's Design
Challenge is
a totally unique design/build competition demanding great design and
complete functionality.

We have an amazing mix of entrants -- and from what I've seen from a few of
them, their design solutions are going to be fantastic. All of these
solutions will be tested on the 51 mile Oregon Manifest Field Test.

The Oregon Manifest Creative
Collaborations have
paired 3 global design firms with bespoke bike craftsmen to create 3
exhibition bikes. This experiment matching Makers and Designers has gone
swimmingly; I had a chance to check out the Ziba Design/ Signal Cycles
project and wow, it's as exactly as great an exploration as you'd think it
would be -- they're even applying for patents on some of the design
elements before anyone outside the firm sees it.

Join us next Friday at PNCA, where we showcase the bike designs and reveal
the secret Field Test Route, and on and Saturday at the Chris King factory
for the Field Test Finish Line block party and awards gala. The Levi's/UO
mobile Bike Shop will be in effect both days, offering free bike and
apparel/bag customization with their mechanic and seamstress on duty.

In true block party style, we'll have bands, beer and other amusements.
You'll see how each bike faired on the course, and who the ultimate winners
are.

PBS will be filming the whole affair. And we'll be narrating the event all
weekend through twitter and instagram.
After the event all entries and entrants can be seen on the OM site, with
full galleries - the top placing bikes will exhibit at the Museum of
Contemporary Craft through February.
