Astronomers use red light during night time viewing hours, as it is the wavelength that is easiest to tolerate when deep-sky viewing. Has anyone tried covering their bike lights with just a thin layer of red plastic film? Results? Or maybe use red lens eyewear?

If you are faster then me I highly recommend candle light,
bees wax works great!  If you want a more reliable light go
with a hurricane oil lamp!  All this talk about bright baja
lights is malarky!

I agree with this. When I ran a dinky little light it killed my night
vision. Huge lights or no lights. No lights is more fun though.
