Re: Info About Heiser Farm Course Conditions

We'll post some photos, maybe a video, after Friday's course set up if
we can. Even with the rain the ground is very dry on the valley under
the first two inches of soil. We're working on some alternatives to
the "mud bog" if it's a total mess. We've also worked hard to mow
early and often.

See you at Heiser!

It is cyclocross! Mud is part of that type of racing. Otherwise all the
races would be like the early ones that come in September. That mud last
year was a tough challenge, but I rode it each lap on my ss. In fact that
mud was nothing compared to the mud in the south wooded area at Rainier the
next day.
This is a great course no matter the conditions. I have raced every one
they put on there (3 or 4 now) and all have been fun. Go in thinking you
are going to have fun (even if it hurts!) and you will have fun usually.
Each of us could pick and choose things we do not like about any course we
race, but it comes down to the fact that different aspects of the courses
present challenges that confront our individual strengths........thus I am
crushed by riders on one course who I may finish in front of on another
course. It is a cheap way to even the field.

Did you race Canby? They are very similar.

If you didn't, it's not necessarily a muddy course but will depend on
whether anyone has taken a tractor down the course at all.

There is loose stuff, lots of grass and sticky mud (but not lots of it).
It's a super fast course with a lot of barriers to slow you down. There's

Bring the family because there's a lot to do on the island. Pretty cool

Hands down, one of the most fun races around as it feels like mtb short
track race...if you're into that.

Heiser generally has the same course. The only changes are generally in which direction we go. There's a perennial stream that runs through the course and it keeps things wet. It has the typical Willamette Valley fine silt that turns into peanut butter mud with just a little water.
Last year was a very wet and muddy year. The course was real slow. Juniors did 1-3 laps in 20-30 minutes. Most A's did 6 in 60 min.
It can be fast but only when bone-dry. It's been wet enough so far that I'd count on it being slick.

I really hope it is that way this year Will, but last year (at least in the afternoon) the wooded area of Heiser was a thick muddy slippery mess. Here's the photos that Matthew Haughey took last year (these are of the fast portions of the course that day, not the wooded area):

Either way, it's gonna be a blast.
