Next summer, I hope to race at track masters nationals in Colorado
Springs, altitude 6,000'. My only experience racing at altitude came
this past weekend, where I raced in a competitive cross race in Cuba,
NM at 7,000'. The third day at altitude is supposed to be the worst,
but I had my best cross race in years, which came after riding the two
prior days at 6,500'. In my crowded race, I went out way too fast to
avoid a pile up crossing the "Rio Porco." I then recovered surprisingly
quickly and was able to hammer all the way to the podium without losing
my breath.
According to a recent blood test, I am borderline anemic and I am
allergic/asthmatic too. Can I count on another soaring eagle
performance at Colorado Springs next summer, or would I be prudent to
try to prepare myself for racing at altitude?
