knee sprain advice

Nobody can give you an estimation of how quickly you can get back to riding until you've had an evaluation of the knee. The examination would assess ligament stability, along with other ortho tests to give some indication regarding what was damaged in your accident.

If the knee is stable and there is no evidence of other things being torn, you can probably get back to activity relatively quickly. OTOH, if the exam suggests that something is torn or damaged, you may need a follow up MRI to get a better sense of the tissues that are damaged, and how badly they are damaged. From there, rehab would help make sure that your return to activity is a successful one.

This is something that I can help you with.

Torn medial meniscus and partial rupture of anterior cruciate ligament. You're toast. Go see a real doctor.

hey team,

I know some of you guys are qualified for giving advice for this sort
of question, and I know others have likely been through the same
injury so I thought I'd see what you guys might advise. Last night at
the blind date I twist sprained my knee stepping off the bike going
into the first lap of barriers. blind step, dark ground, damn. I
instantly felt something really wrong and got off the course and quit
the race. I have a weak right knee in general, so I would guess I'm
more prone to this sort of injury though haven't had this type happen
before. I'm doing the basic R.I.C.E. (rest ice compression elevate)
treatment. A bit over 24 hours now and there is no pain while resting,
though I am limping and have some difficulty moving. cycling obviously
doesn't feel great. I don't think it is a serious injury as I have a
fairly full range of motion, though some movements with more pain than
others.

Would be curious if others have done this same thing and what your
recovery time was. I'm expecting about 2 weeks which effectively ends
my available time for the cross season. bummed!

knee warmers work great stuffed with icepacks!

Any advice?

Thanks, Ryan Francesconi
