Geeking out on cyclocross lap times

Hey Brook,

Not sure if this is better the data, but there is a CSV export of all the results at http://obra.org/export/obra.tar.bz2

It's a big file, and formatted a bit funny for the folks who uses it, but it may be easier for you to work with. There's also a lame API:

Events:
http://obra.org/events.json
http://obra.org/events.xml

Results:
http://obra.org/results.json
http://obra.org/results.xml

People:
http://obra.org/people.json

You need to page through the data with a query param, like:
http://obra.org/events.json?page=2

Documentation, such as it is:
http://www.butlerpress.com/racing_on_rails/rdoc/
http://www.butlerpress.com/racing_on_rails/rdoc/classes/EventsController.html
http://www.butlerpress.com/racing_on_rails/rdoc/classes/ResultsController.html

None of the laptimes I gave to Brooke have the offset for the different categories. The clock started with the first whistle.

Shane,

I only used Saturday second and third lap times (with a few exceptions). The SS data is the worst -- only had numbers for the top of the field on Sat so I substituted Sun numbers and adjusted the times based on a multiplier I arrived at by looking at Sat/Sun field offsets for other, similar fields. Since Sun was the costume race, there might be more slow lap times than "normal."

I also adjusted the A race to account for a slightly longer course. Therefore, the As are best compared against themselves. I did take some care at arriving at the A race offset and I think its accurate enough to make the picture a good birds eye view.

Brooke - pretty interesting.  Question - are your times adjusted for the field delays on each start?  For example, the Clydesdales start 3 minutes after the clock start, so our times are 3 minutes shorter than the published stats (at least as they go to the obra list/posted on the site).

Ill also offer a more detailed description of methodology later.

Data crunched.

First picture is the best for field comparisons -- click on the pic for
human readable form (lolz). But if you want to see a more detailed picture
of your field, you can check the histograms in the next post. I promise to
have a picture of the women's fields later (histograms are already posted).

I'll also offer a more detailed description of methodology later.
