Reunion of Racers from the 1970's

A Special Time for tales re-kindled, and new ones invented, by Merckx! Just

how big WAS that gear, how steep and long that climb, how many holes were

drilled in the pursuit of lightness? Were old Campy bottom brackets really

smoother with their loose balls? How much lighter were pre-parallelogram

derailers, and what was that sound they made just before auto-shifting into

neutral (ouch!)? Were high-flange 36-holed wheels stiffer? What were

toe-straps? Just how nice were Criterium Seta Extras? How many laps was

Skinner's Butte? How much chicken smoke was down at the corner at

Oktoberfest in Mt Angel, and is sauerkraut really slippery?   Etc.

Bruce, Dirk, Andy, Russell, Dave, Harry, Mike, Jerry, Robert, Larry, _____

will be there. If you raced in the '70s, '80s, or even before or after, and

have a hankering to party, you should come, too! Contrary to rumor, you

will NOT have to arrive via fixed gear!

Soon: Thursday December 19

=================================

7 PM Casual Buffet*

Guests of honor are all the racers from the 70's --- who aren't old because

eternal life came from surviving racing wearing flimsy leather helmets

Racers from the 80's are welcome, too --- they can come and bow down in

honor of those skilled at patching sew-up tires

Racers from the 90's can come and lead (no wheel suckin' allowed) the pack

for those who used to survive having only one small water bottle on 80 mile

hot, summer rides

New racers from this century can come to hear tales of trying to find the

ideal food for jersey pockets before cycling bars existed while washing

dishes

RSVP
