Portland UCI Race Report

Sorry for the late update. The race in Portland was great. The course was

really cool. Lots of steep power climbs and off camber twisty slick decents.

It was about 40 degrees and a light mist. Gully got away after a few laps

and then I bridged up 2 laps later. When we got together we pinned it and

got a good gap. Gully took the win and the UCI points while I settled for

2nd. Then the Cliff Team totally shwagged us out w/ some cool gear. We

headed back to Jon and Renee's to clean up and pack our bikes. Oh yea, we

gave the Boulder Brit as much of our crap as he would take b/c he's driving

down to the next race in the Trek van so we didn't have to fly with it.

Anyway, good burritos for dinner last night and then we headed to River City

Bike shop for the season finally blow out. Barry Wicks won the Cross Crusade

series and a bunch of money to help him go to worlds. The Cross Crusade guys

totally schwagged us out too. Sweet hats and T-shirts. Did I mention there

was free beer at the party? When they kicked us out of the shop the Cross

Crusade guys took us out to the bar and bought some more brews. When we got

home we hit the 24hr health food store for some desert. Jon and Renee could

live in the best location of anyone I have ever stayed with. You can walk to

a health food store, burrito shop, ice cream palor, breakfast cafe, bars,

coffe shop, tea garden and just about anything else in 3 minutes. You can

ride to the bike path in 5 mins and the airport is about 15 mins. Portland

rocks. Check out the pics from the weekend I just posted. Gully switched

from his McCormack sized 44 chainring to a 38 for the race b/c of the steep

climbs. I'm headed down to Santa Cruz right now. I got security screened

again today. Only when I travel w/ a taped up bike box. It's always good to

beat up on Tim Johnson and this time was no different. I only hope Gully and

I can keep our streak going for Nationals. I should get some good pics from

Santa Cruz this week. We're gonna have slot car world championships this

week at Hattricks house. He has like 75 ft of track setup in his house. He's

got a halfpipe to so we have x-games world championships to. Till

tomorrow.......
