Best news in a while! Big thanks to all involved.

Sandy Ridge and Stubbs are great examples to follow.

I wanted to expand on one thing that Ron touches on here. This is the
beginning of a trail system. Unlike some areas (e.g. Forest Park) the land
use managers and trail advocates have a great relationship in Cascade
Locks. There is a lot of potential for non-gravity fed dirt hijinks here
(it is pretty flat). If you have ideas, run them passed the IMBA/NWTA
liason for this area. Just like Sandy Ridge and Stub Stewart, paying the
dues and working within the system has paid off in great access.

...and lost and found.
For those looking for an off-road experience close to Portland metro.

Friday night at the new trail out in Cascade Locks was a sweet adventure. My problem (other than my first night trail ride) was I could not tell what direction I was going, but did not crash and just followed the lights ahead of me! The area might hold some sweet potential for not just riding, but maybe some competitions. It still needs lots of riding in, but is already fun. More elevation to be built and they are going to build a bridge out to an island! Really nice, fun people....great time.

The Bonfire ring and bottomless number of pallets to burn (provided by land manager) was a very nice warm up after riding. The sky was clear with stars and half-a-moon. Not sure if they are planning to do it again next Friday, but check NWTA site ( nw-trail.org ) and something might get posted. I did see there is a night ride on the 7th at Brown’s Camp posted there. I plan to check it out in some daylight so I don’t feel like a mole.

One of the leaders found a nice battery pack and a red tail light. He said there were some obra riders out riding just before / at dark. They had to come out early as they had other plans. Nobody from the 25 of us lost it..............
If you see this and can describe these items, I can get you in touch with person who has them.

With just one ride out there under my belt (and I was in the dark as usual), I would not suggest a cross bike (will know more after daylight adventure). My hardtail mtb was blast. A single speed would be really fun...there were at least two or three of them as well as a fat tire tandem with a couple who rocked the boat.
It was fun.
Police knew we were there and officer stopped by the campfire.......he was bummed that he had to work (cover for other officer) as he is a rider and was planning on riding with us.
I want to ride it way fast in the daylight!!!!
thanks for reading.
