The beta is still open until Saturday. They're allowing beta users to
lock in at $7/month.

Technically you don't need a power meter to get the advantage of
TrainerRoad. They support a ton of trainers and their VirtualPower feature
provides a relative power number to set the workout intensities based in
trainer power curve, speed of rear wheel, and cadence.

You also don't need the garmin if you have a laptop. All you need is ant+
speed and cadence and a ant+ USB stick. $60 total probably to get going
plus $10/month.

Certainly not cheap, but better than a computrainer since you also get
power data for road training.

Computrainer alternative:

- Generic trainer
- TrainerRoad software (www.trainerroad.com)
- ANT+ powertap wheel
- also use it for road training
- new from neuvation for < $700 now
- Garmin head unit (500, 310xt, ...)
- also use it for road training

Certainly not cheap, but better than a computrainer since you also get
power data for road training.

If you are going to spend the money, think long term and get a computrainer. I got one 6 years ago and it was by far the best investment. The info it gives you while riding is awesome. The workouts you can do and the courses you can download are incredible. I don't think you can do motor pace workouts on those other trainers. The motor pace feature alone is a awesome piece of the training puzzle.

Looking to upgrade. Send me your input so I can make an informed decision. I know I would be happy with either trainer but recommendations are helpful.

Cyclops Fluid Pro vs Kurt Kinetic Road Machine.

From what I have read I like the adjustable leg on the Cyclops and the locking mech on the resistance unit.
