who makes an XXL helmet?

Jeff Wills

2011-12-27

Having a somewhat-larger-than-average noggin myself, this is a subject close to my scalp.

The BHSI maintains a list of XXL and XXXL helmets: http://www.bhsi.org/bighead.htm . This was current as of last April. There are also links to general reviews and comments on new-for-2012 features.

I've had some success lightly modifying the inside of XL helmets to relieve pressure points, but I'd ask an OBRA referee before pursuing this course. Showing up at a race only to be denied entry would surely be a boot to the head.

The room is private and one of three in my house (other two rooms are my office and bedroom). House has lots of bike storage (large attached garage), is conveniently located to PIR (five min cruise down Interstate Ave.), 5 min walk to New Seasons, close to Mississippi district and a hop skip and a jump to the Yellow Line MAX. I would prefer a non-smoker, non-huge-drinker. Fenced, dog friendly yard, garden space, etc.

Got a friend getting into mtn biking but really needs a helmet. He's got a giant noggin, about 25" around so just bigger than most XL helmets around.

So, does anyone have any suggestions about helmets that won't break the bank?
