Ever want to try speedskating? You may not realize that not only are
there similarities in body position & muscles used in both
speedskating and cycling, but there is actually a local speedskating
club in the Portland Area. Not long track, where 2 skaters race the
clock. There are only 4 ovals in North America, the 400-meter rinks
are in Calgary, Lake Placid, Milwaukee, and Salt Lake City. No, we are
talking short track - where you race in a hockey-sized 100-meter rink
in a pack of other skaters.

Mountain View Speedskating (www.mountainviewspeedskating.org) skates
usually twice a month at Mountain View Ice Arena in Vancouver, and has
not only world-class but Olympic-level coaches to help skaters at any
experience level to get comfortable on the ice. Granted, you won't
become the next Apolo Ohno, but you will have a good time with some
great people while enjoying a good low-impact workout. Cost is $15
per skater and includes skate rental - we have a limited inventory of
speedskates to rent, so arrive 15 minutes early. Sessions are on
Sundays from 10:30am-11:30am, check our website for updates.
