Fifteen 60+ riders = separate field. Since 4 laps were advertised, I would need a vote of the field to reduce to 3. Come on out 60+ers!

John, I am sure Ron and Lance will be more than willing to help us rock
climbers. Should be a lot of fun to have our own group.

I like the idea and will seriously think about entering. The opportunity
to have our own field is greatly appreciated. The question I have is, Do we
need to do four laps? Should we make it three? At our age I would vote for
three. My personal feeling is that a number of our group probably do not
enter because of the length of the race.

I would like to see this happen, selfishly, so that I can race in it next

As you probably know, Banana Belt is just a few short weeks away!

In the past the 60+ field has been combined with the 50+ field which gives
a
total field size around fifty or sixty riders at the start with the
majority
of the participants being 50 to 59 in age(Meaning not very many 60+
types).

In an attempt to lure more 60+ riders to the Banana Belt races the promoter
will create a 60+ field IF fifteen (15) or more will sign up for the event.
So now if anyone has a reason NOT to ride because of having to ride in a
large field, this is the time to step up and be counted!

According to the OBRA database there are a fair number of racers in the 60+
range and that crowd is growing. However historically very few show up for
races unless it's a time trial or cyclocross event. I suspect it's a
concern for safety although that idea may go out the window with the number
of 60+ at the CCX races.

Off the top, there are a number of 60+ racers on Portland Velo, Rose City
(Team Rose City), BBC and NOMAD, that's just the tip of the iceberg so if
you are a person in that age range please consider getting out for the
Banana Belt races.

If there are enough 60+ racers here at Banana Belt then there is a very
good
chance to convince other promoters to provide a separate race for the 60+
crowd in other road races as this season moves forward.

What do you 60+ folks have to say???

Ron
