The answer is maybe both or not. You need to read the race flyer carefully
and even ask the race organizer if it is not clear. If you noticed the flyer
for Cherry Pie they made notes that sopecially said that the groups would be
scored separately.
We do try to break down as many categories as we are able.

I'm still somewhat new to racing, so I'm hoping someone out there can tell
me where to find the answer to a question. If a race has a category that
you sign up for (e.g., 40+ cat 4) then does that mean that category should
be scored separately, even if it was combined with another category for the
race (with cat 4)? I've noticed on the road races I've been in so far,
even though they combine fields, the results are broken apart. I guess what
I'd really like to know is how to know for sure up front how things will be
scored. I thought the category determined it.
