When you "reply all" from your email, when you receive an obra chat post in
your email, it goes to the whole list. That's how I replied to this.

so I see someone answered 'reply all' but there is no reply all option.
There is a 'reply private' button. I look at this list both as a digest and
as a 'live list' and I've never been able to find that option. Is there
another way to interact with the list that would give that option? I have to
copy and paste the title to a 'new message' then add a re: in front to make
it look like I'm replying.

Every email provider has different functions for how you can use your account. Additionally, the type of device you're using, computer vs. smartphone (see my signature below) make a difference. This means how you reply, how you set up account settings and how you can establish a fixed signature.

Yahoo is vastly different from gmail.

Not sure about all the others.
