Good news! The renovation project is moving forward. We had a meeting
yesterday with the Dairy and the contractors and the project was green
lighted. Thank you to Chris Alling for stepping up to help manage this
project and Tim Schauer for providing engineering input. Tomorrow the Dairy
will be cutting a hole in the straight away so that we will know the depth
of the concrete, if there is rebar and what material is below the track.
Monday the contractor will start putting in a gravel road behind the
velodrome so that heavy equipment can drive into the velodrome to do the
demolition and removal of material. God and weather willing there will be
new straights on the track roughly 2 weeks later. The plan is that the
apron will be replaced in the fall when the weather is drier unless the
apron is too damaged by the trucks driving over it this spring. After the
contractors are done we will need to patch the parts of the track not
replaced, paint those parts, measure and replace lines. The plan is that we
will be racing in May though I expect that painting and lines will be done
in May.
I want to thank everyone who has donated money to this project. I also want
to make it clear that we need to continue to raise money for this project.
The Dairy has authorized moving forward on the project with the
understanding that we will continue fund raising not only to help cover the
cost of the straights replacement this spring but also to cover the planned
replacement of the apron in the fall.
