If you do not get enough information telling you to purchase this and tweak
that......Just tune up that Rockhopper (give it a name if you have not
already) , go out and race it at short track and trust that the needed
changes in your present set-up will make themselves VERY CLEAR. Your body
might make some suggested changes to your brain as well, depending on what
you have been doing in the last 10 years.
Remember to have fun in this transitional period of your life.

Hey, where are all the responses to the newbie questions? I was anxiously
waiting to read them too. I'm thinking about trying out short track racing
this year and I've got a 10-year old Rockhopper.

I can forward my contributions later this evening when I get back to my
home computer if you like.

Every revolutionary idea seems to evoke three stages of reaction...
One, it's completely impossible.
Two, it's possible, but it's not worth doing.
Three, I said it was a good idea all along.

So this rodie finally got a mountain bike. It's been 18 years since I've ridden mtn bike and the technology has changed and I'm more serious about racing.
Here my questions as stupid as they may be.
1. whats the difference between xc and single track?
2. tire recommendations- 26" hard tail, I'm 130lbs, and I like to ride xc-singletrack, the fun techinical trails, of course some hard pack, mud, climbing, switchbacks. I don't even know if there are tubular but I ride clincher, folding beed for the weight savings. Let me know your thoughts and if you talk about knob depth give me a tire example so I can look up a pic of the tread. Also size recommendations, even ideas like different widths on front vs rear.
3. Does PIR offer mtn bike races in the summer? Or any other begginer race recomendations.

Thanks,
Stewart
