Call for 2012 High School CX Teams!

Everyone,

OBRA has a bold vision of making Cyclocross a statewide scholastic sport
someday. Cyclocross is very well suited as a HS Sport. It is great for both
Girls, and Boys and works well as a team sport. It teaches and promotes one
of the few lifelong sports & all around healthy activity. Cycling! Help us
with this vision. Now is the time to start planning your 2012 Oregon /
Southern WA High School CX team. We need you to help make this High School
CX league successful!

It all starts with recruiting new teams. You can start with racers trying to
find a coach, or a coach trying to find racers.

Examples of where to start:

OBRA juniors in high school who already race

High school students who already ride and are interested in trying racing

Parents of interested high school students

Teachers

Bike shops

The cycling community

OBRA members

Each of you can all get the word out, and start the creation of a new team.

If every student interested in recruits two friends you have the makings for
a successful team in no time. The same concept applies to adults. If you are
an OBRA adult and want to be involved (coaching, support, etc) I encourage
you to recruit another OBRA adult to get on board. OBRA teams should all
consider adopting a HS Team. Ideally one with children of adults on your
team! If you are OBRA parents of kids not in HS don't wait. Start the team
in your area so it is up and going by the time your kids are in HS.

Cross country runners, soccer players, tennis players, skiers who have never
raced a bike before have joined this league and done exceptionally well. We
have resources to help you: develop your team, work with your school, create
coaching and training plans, plan a team budget, create team jersey's, and
generate ideas for team sponsorship. It is really easy. 2-3 hours a week of
practice can be enough for an entry level team. With the right volunteer
support, practice & team commitments can be flexible around other HS sports
and activities. Kids don't have to compromise. They can do CX and
Soccer/Cross Country, etc.

When talking with prospective riders offer them the poster below and a
contact name: coach, team, or my contact e-mail and/or phone number. Point
them at the web page/videos/facebook sites so they can see what it is all
about. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Help me spread the
word, but more than that, get involved and help make it happen!

Thanks

John Wilson
