I know that Alice Drobna, who was 2nd in Cat 1 Women at Mudslinger and Echo was also riding SS at both! Seems like there are some strong women who want to go the full distance on SS.

This is a reoccurring theme with SS races in general as well as some of the older age categories. Just because you are over 50-55 or have one gear doesn't mean you want to ride a shorter race...

Mike,
For what it's worth, I remember talking with a woman at the beginning
of the Mudslinger, and she was riding a single speed. She had
specifically signed up as 'Cat 2' because she wanted to do the longer
course. And, there were two other women riding with her
(happenstance) also with single speeds, also signed up as 'Cat 2'
because they wanted to ride the longer course.
So you had at least 6 women riding the course with SS, possibly more.

[OBRA Chat] SS women and Mountain Biking
Hello
Well 3 is a good start at Mudslinger for SS
women and over the years I have done this at
various times for dedicated women.
With this being said Joel from Sisters Stampede
will be offering a SS womens race as well. He
will award prizes and it will be on the Cat 2
course. Now with that being said yes...alot of
you ladies can go just as far as the men and yes
I agree that the SS class and bike is not
something you just fall into but is born out of
the simplicity of one gear and one focus, but
starting here provides the opportunity and
challenge that so many men enjoy.
This season I challenge all MTB promoters to
offer this cat. I will be offering it at the
Test of Endurance 50 as well and hope that many
other series races will do so also.
We may end up tracking it for the overall in the
series if 5 or more races end up having it, but
it will not be official until the 2013 season if
it is well received.
