I remember it being related to the delicious baked prize list created by
Sarah. One of the early courses featured Pugh Rd into Fayettville which
was not gravel at the time (it is now) but was quite rough with large
potholes resulting in multiple crashes. I recall John Platt standing
dazed by the side of the road after a particularly hard fall.

I can't wait. Thanks for putting on a race at such an awesome venue with some good distance to accompany it.

See you Saturday.

Here's a real simple solution.

1. If you like a course like this RACE.
2. If you don't like a course like this DON'T RACE.

Pretty simple.

Danny,

I have a solution to the "gravel issue". [Unfortunately it will not help for this years event]

If you use the same course next year, change the name to "Amity Roubaix".

When Mr Aucker started the race way back when, I believe the intention was to have a race/course that was flat and "easy", thus the name. [David correct me if I'm wrong]

So when us "old timers" hear the course has gravel and learn " last year we had more riders state that this is the hardest RR of the year in Oregon"  it does not seem to keep to "tradition". Not that that's a bad thing.

So a simple name change should alleviate this "gravel issue" for next year.

BTW: I believe last year 69 of the racers would not agree with the course being "fun", that is how many DNF's there were, an unusually high #. Then again, maybe they would

In any case, thanks for promoting the race!! [I will not be attending however, I have an allergy to gravel]

I ask you to take a step back, and how much fun that they had. I also ask this, Do you email the Promoter of Mt. Hood Cycling Classic and asked the to make the hill easier or Call Brad Ross and ask if he could not have any mud or dismounts in a cross race. If you don’t want to mess up your bike then you always have PIR. If you want to have fun, get faster and stronger please come out and race.

I second that! We already have Eugene Roubaix and CX. Last year I raced POC and lost my water bottle on a huge pot hole, cracked loose my bars and flatted. I will still race it though because the forecast is dry and I have always loved Piece of Cake RR. I do think attendance would be better if it were all paved like the Classic POC of David Auker years when OBRA membership was 1/4 of what it is now. Just sayin. I love a good challenging course but 2-3 inch deep rocky gravel and pot holes that will swallow your wheel, on road bikes?? If we had Belgian cobbles I would much prefere that, at least the cobbles stay in place. Plus the gravel ruins a nice new bikes finish in one race, so race your old bike if you have one. Good luck.
