As an older, but aspiring Cat 4/5 rider that was NOT a Cat 1 (or 2 or 3)
rider 20 years ago, this news is more than a bit dismaying. Unless these
formerly dominant racers have been supersizing it at the drive-thru's and
focusing on the perfect Star Trek costume for Comic-Con for the last 20
years, it seems like they should be riding Cat 3.
If they're riding Cat 4/5 I guess they're happy being valedictorian of
summer school?

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Master's Category Question
What category does a long-retired racer return to, when he decides to take
up racing again? I see guys racing Master's Cat 4/5 who were once dominant
Cat 1's back in the early 90's. I was a Cat 2 back in the 80's and 90's and
down-graded to Cat 3, when I promised Candi I would not race full gas, but
was more interested in tutoring riders that I coached. I am now 65 (have
not raced for 13 years), pretty strong, but wondering what category I would
be if I raced again.
