Fwd: Bridge over the Willamette

Kevin

What is even more baffling, is that while the Steel Bridge in Portland had a pedestrian/cycling path attached to the side (in cooperation with the railroad) yet there seems to be an issue getting that done on the railroad bridge that is within a few hundred yards of this proposed new bridge over the Willamette in Wilsonville.

As I said in an earlier email from my stupid "smart" phone, the Boone Bridge crossing used to be safe enough for those at ease with high speed traffic just 5 ft away, but the changes to that Wilsonville interchange now make a pinch point where the 8 ft paved shoulder squeezes down to about 2 ft, right at the point where traffic merging onto the southbound I-5 will be looking in their rear view mirror in anticipation of a merge.

I work down in this area. If the ferry isn't available, the only
alternative to cross the river short of I-5 is 10 miles over in Newburg.
It is very weird there isn't even a pedestrian path over the Boone Bridge.

Already signed. The "improvements" made to the Wilsonville interchange at the north end of the Boone Bridge (I-5) have actually made cycling less safe. Great riding opportunities across the river, if we could just get there safely. Thete is also talk of closing the Canby Ferry, making the Boone Bridge (or the potential new alternative) even more vital. -Kevin

I heard about this and this looks like a phenomenal idea. I know that
I see a bunch of OBRA riders actually riding across at Wilsonville on
I-5. Gives me the heebie jeebies just watching.

Definitely give your feedback!

Kenji,

I've recently been involved with a Committee to support the
feasibility study of a "bike/pedestrian/emergency vehicles" bridge
over the Willamette river in Wilsonville.
We've started a petition to show the interest to the Wilsonville City
Council. They are to make a decision on whether to accept the federal
grand to fund this study

The petition is at http://signon.org/sign/wilsonville-french-prairie
I was hoping you could help pass it to the OBRA mailing list (I'm not
a member anymore) as I know the French Prairie area is a favorite
riding ground of many. Also we've have setup other means of
communication

a website: http://www.frenchprairiebridge.org/
a Twitter account: https://twitter.com/#!/WVFPBridge
a FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/WVbridge

Thanks for your help

Sincerely
