White socks, was Re: Rules about similar Jerseys

There was a Masters racer in the LA area (Guarnicia?) who took white shoe
polish and painted white "socks" on his ankles...

Also, wasn't there a "neat and clean" rule?

Earlier, "No socks" was only legal on the track. At Mt Angel one year
Mike Marranen (sp?) showed up as ref (he was a high-level ABLA or USCF
official at the time). He called me out as we were lining up for the
start for having no socks. A spectator with somewhat dirty (but
ostensibly white) socks (with sandals!) offered up his, and so I was
still able to race.
