It's 115K all the way around the lake.

James,
I've only ridden portions, but I'd echo the sentiment about
counter-clockwise. This is especially true on the west side between Emerald
Bay and Camp Richardson/Fallen Leaf Lake. Coming downhill on the winding
road from the main trailhead parking area at Emerald you want to be away
from the lake and flowing with traffic since you can pretty much just take
the lane since it's a fast downhill. Riding up that twisty section going
the other way you are left without much of a shoulder and going petty slowly
you have a great likelihood of an unfortunate RV encounter in your lane.
You can still enjoy the lake view without being right next to it.

Has anyone ridden around the lake? how much elevation is in a loop and and
is there a preferred ride direction?
Thanks for any help.

I forget the elevation around the lake, but when I was young and could
climb, I preferred counter clockwise. This way you are on the outside of
the road, since cars tend to drive around the lake and veer to the right as
they are trying to look at the lake.
