Just be glad you don't live in a place like Slidell, LA. Whenever I hit
the truck stop there I felt like I was dragging a pallet of steak
through a pack of feral dogs.
"With a crime rate of 61 per one thousand residents, Slidell has one of
the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all
sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance
of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in
16. Within Louisiana, more than 89% of the communities have a lower
crime rate than Slidell."

I guess the only reasonable solution is a SUV w/tow-hitch and a trailer
that you can secure your leg-bling with and roll into your garage.

My cars are usually secured in the garage and stickers only belong on
the 'fridge or toolbox.
;-)
I know it might seem paranoid to some. But in the past I've been
responsible for transporting high value cargo all over the US and Europe
so it's a habit. Remember hearing about bicycle racing teams having all
their stuff stolen from the hotel parking lot? The racing assets I
transported for motorsports were well in excess of 10x more valuable.
And because our sponsorship was likewise plastered all over the rigs it
was very high profile. As a practical matter while in transit the
vehicles never left our sight and we slept in them until we arrived at
our secured destination.
So, it's hard for me not to "think security" even though I live
somewhere pretty safe and carry stuff worth much less these days.

Unfortunately organized theft probably is here. The thing is organized
crime is only confirmed when it's discovered. So, that it is yet to be
discovered does not mean it doesn't exist, just that no one has looked
hard enough to find it.
A lot of the theft prevention measures are common sense if one is
security minded. Would go online and show off your wife's jewelry? Or
how about bragging to strangers about your antique gun collection?
Probably not. So why show off your expensive bikes unnecessarily? And
providing a map to your house for strangers is simply crazy in this day
and age.
Personally I don't even like driving around with my bikes on the roof
rack. It's like an invitation to follow me home and see what other
valuables I might have around (there are none really, all you strangers!).
I mean how easy is it to follow someone with bikes carried high like

Yeah, good point... I see lots of rides on strava that literally start in
peoples driveways or garage. They have a feature in the settings of strava
to start the recorded track a specified distance from the actual starting
location.
I should probably remove my "bike porn" album from Facebook, even though
there's nothing really that amazing in there. And quit mentioning the
amazing bike shop I'm building in my basement...
