Just a reminder to folks that there will be an OBRA Mountain Bike Official's

Training session this Saturday in Corvallis from 8am-5pm.

The invitation is attached.

If you are a mountain bike promoter, have somebody attend. It could save

you $ in official's fees this summer.

There is no cost to attend, but I need a head count, so let me know if you

are coming.

I will also need to send you the course prep reading packet.

Regards,

Jim Fischer

OBRA ATB Official's Training

Saturday, February 8th, 2003

Corvallis, Oregon

8am-5pm

With the 2003 mountain bike racing season fast approaching, it is time =

to train some new folks to be officials as well as refresh the existing =

crew. This year's class will be similar to last year with one =

exception...the test will be FIRST!

That's right, read up before hand so you can take the test as soon as =

you hit the chair. Last year's session was a bit snoozy, so I'd like =

to pick up the pace a little and work hands-on with some scenarios we =

may encounter in the field.

Please read the attached material cover to cover paying specific =

attention to the quiz questions at the end of each section.

Class Day Details

Who: Anybody who wants to be a mountain bike official may attend. =

There is no cost, but you must be an OBRA member. Memberships will be =

available for $15 at the clinic. Please contact me if you were not =

officially invited, but would like to attend so I can make enough =

packets.

What: Training to become an OBRA mountain bike official will cover:

* OBRA Racing rule interpretation and enforcement

* Types of off-road competition and specific requirements

* Suggestions for conflict resolution and avoidance

* Suggestions to work with promoters to help events work better

* Description of timing, results, categories and classes

* Insurance, paperwork and fee structure

* Points totals and series "stuff"

Why: The quality of mountain bike racing will benefit from the addition =

of more officials with better training. Increased numbers of officials =

will allow better coverage at events with less chance for burnout. It =

is important for folks to understand how to time a race as the =

officials this season will be working the events to help insure =

accurate and timely results submission to OBRA.

When: Saturday, February 8th, 2003, from 8am-5pm. OBRA will provide =

breakfast munchies, pizza and drinks. If you have special dietary =

needs, please feel free to bring your own grub.

Preparation: Read the entire contents of this packet paying special =

attention to the quiz questions.

Where: Benton County Public Works Day Room, 360 SW Avery, Corvallis OR. =

The day room is located just west of Hwy 99W in the south part of =

Corvallis (south of the Mary's River). Look for a big brown van.

Directions:   From I5, take the Corvallis exit (between mile post 227 =

and 228) and head west into town. After about 7 miles, turn left =

following the signs for Ocean Beaches. Do NOT cross the Willamette =

River and enter into town. After you turn and head towards the ocean =

beaches, take the first exit. This is the 4th Street/Hwy 99W heading =

south. You'll cross the Mary's River and pass Papa's Pizza (hint). =

Take a right at the first light - this is Avery. We will be down about =

a block on the left. If you get the the train tracks, you've gone too =

far. From the coast, head into Corvallis on Hwy 20/34. Take the 3rd =

St/Hwy 99W exit. Take a left at Western Blvd, and another left at 4th =

St to head south out of town on Hwy 99W. Follow the above directions =

past Papa's Pizza...
