Try to keep positive by spending extra time with supportive friends. It
will help you recover faster and help you move through the red tape with a
bit more grace.

ok, this, unfortunately is a time of year, where lots of us are cycling and some of us get hit.

Jared, I am an attorney, I represent cyclists, I am an OBRA racer and a bicycle geek.

In your fact pattern, you may need to testify in the criminal case against the driver.

You have several options as to what you can do about you and your bicycle.
Driving a car with no insurance may mean there is no insurance to cover the driver, or it may not.
If you have a case, even though you were cycling, you have portions of your car isnurance that will cover you. Your car medical called PIP, and your car Uninsured Motorist will both offer coverage.

If you have renters or homeowners insurance those may cover your expensive bike.

If you have health insurance that may also cover your medical expenses.

give a call or contact me directly via email and I am happy to talk.

Mark

If he doesn't have insurance, your attorney will just go after your own
policy coverage (uninsured motorist). You might get a judgement against the
driver but it sounds like you will just get in line with all the other
victims. You won't get anything out of him personally. Just hope the system
can deal with him.

good luck

If you have homeowners/renters insurance, contact them to begin
replacing
your bike (as well as to go after the dipshit who hit you).

Contact and attorney.....IMMEDIATELY!

There are a bunch of really good ones on the list, so some of them will
probably reply, but I'm guessing that this guy has something worth value.
No license and no insurance doesn't mean you won't get anything, just means
you need to get professional advice.

Hope you heal quickly.

Hi OBRA,

I got hit by a car this morning pretty bad. I think I'm ok, but landed on my shoulder and head and will be getting checked out. My bike got pretty wrecked.

Unfortunately the guy ran (after hitting another car), but the cops found him. No license, no insurance. The officer I spoke with said I'll have to testify in court, but to not expect any financial compensation. Unfortunately my bike was both expensive and my sole means of transportation.

Has anybody gone through something similar? Any advice?

Thanks in advance!
Jared
