I would disagree with the assessment that Polk county is anti bike. I have had my best riding here and would contend it is the best of any place I have lived and definitely better than the surrounding counties. After 12 years ans close to a hundred thousand miles that is conaiderable. Could it be better? Of course... Mr Paris obviously has issues but the fact that the IO is willing to publish his nonsense exposes him for what he is.
That is a good thing as are the articles they have done following up on the tragedies of the last few months.

The following was published in the Polk County Itemizer- and in
essence tells us that we don't belong on the roads. If there are
curves, then the driver should be more cautious as there may be
obstructions besides cyclists includes walkers, people on horseback
and other road users.

Bicyclists need to
use more caution
This is in regard to the recent string of fatal accidents involving
bike riders on our roadways. Considering the amount of curvy roads,
tourists, trucks and just people in a big hurry and lack of shoulders,
these roads are not safe for bike riders -- bright clothing or not.
Most bike riders feel they have the right of way. Well, that doesn't
stop a car or truck that can't see them on a blind corner from hitting
them.
Use your head when riding on these roads or don't ride in an area
where there is no bike lane at all.
I can't tell you how many times I've come around a blind corner in my
log truck and almost had a head-on collision with a car to avoid
hitting a bike rider. Which would you choose? Bike or a whole family
in a car? Please think about that.
