Greetings, everyone!

After taking a mid-series break - and enjoying a fun day of racing on the mountain last Sunday - we're getting back in the groove for four more weeks of Short Track racing at PIR. Here are a couple updates, ahead of tomorrow's short track race # 5:

1) Dress down for our "Summer Casual Race Outfit Contest"!
That's right, summer is finally here and the forecast for tomorrow calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the 80's, so perfect weather for our annual Summer Casual Race Outfit Contest*. Leave the lycra at home and come race in your "Monday best" casual threads: oversized surf trunks, colorful skirts, double-rainbow tie dye tees, knitted socks,... anything goes! We'll have cool prizes for the most authentic male and female "summer casual racer" in each race heat!
* Participation in the contest is free. Judging will be done based on photos (posted by Oregon Velo or submitted by racers by Wed 7/11). All winners will be listed on our web site later next week.

2) Hopworks Dine Out Day for Mat Barton: this Monday, all day, at both HUB locations!
After his tragic racing accident - four weeks to the day tomorrow - Portland short track racer Mat Barton has been working hard on his recovery and the amazing support from the community keeps coming in to help Mat and his family get a start on their new life. Tomorrow (Monday, July 9) our series title sponsor Hopworks Urban Brewery will host Dine Out Day for Mat Barton. From 11 am to 11 pm, 20% of all restaurant and bar sales at both HUB locations (SE Powell and Hopworks Bike Bar on N Williams) will be donated to Mat and his family. More details: http://www.bartonpdx.com/june-11th-2012-hopworks-to-host-dine-out-day-for-mat-barton/

3) More ways to support Mat this Monday: weekly raffle, short track t-shirts, and yummy Staccato Gelato!
Like the previous two weeks, we will hold a weekly raffle for Mat Barton's recovery fund. The grand prize for this Monday's raffle is a svelte FSA SL-K Light Triple MegaExo Carbon MTB crankset (retail value $530), generously donated by series sponsor Full Speed Ahead. We'll have a bunch of other great prizes - all donated by our series sponsors - and tickets will sell for $5 (5 tickets for $20). The lucky winners of our June 25 raffle - including the winner of the rad Hopworks Pub Runner Lite bike - are posted at http://www.portlandracing.com/weekly-raffle-for-mat-barton.html. Tomorrow, we will also start selling the new Short Track t-shirts, including a limited-edition version in the flashy Staccato Gelato team colors. T-shirts will sell for $20 and all proceeds will go to Mat's recovery fund. And talking about Staccato Gelato... tomorrow, Mat's team sponsor will bring out their mobile ice cream cart to PIR and sell yummy gelato to benefit Mat. So make sure to bring cash. No checks
or credit cards, please!

4) Series Standings.
Series standings after the first four races have been posted at: https://www.athletepath.com/portland-short-track-series/2012/standings. For those in pursuit of BAR points, the first four races will count towards one set of series BAR points (though they won't show up in the OBRA results until later this week). The next four races will count towards another, separate set of BAR points.

That's it... I hope to see you tomorrow at PIR. Let's bring out the summer!

~Kris
