Short version: looking for a cross bike to give the upcoming cross season a try. I realize I am asking a bit early, but I have some nerves as I return to riding after an injury. A 56 cm frame size should fit me well, I need the full bike, and a price limit of $400.

Long story:
Budgeted for a mountain bike this year, rode, loved it, and decided to try the short-track season so I could ride the motocross track. The track is fun, but I really enjoy the grass and other obstacles, which makes me think I would love cross. I had set the budget to buy one bike this year, it is the mountain bike. So, now I am hoping that fortune is looking down upon me and I can find a bike in my late-stage, low price ($400), scrounge budget.

I am a consistent bottom 15 finisher in short track, and imagine a similar performance in cross. I want to try cyclocross, have fun, stay out of the way of race leaders, and come home in one uninjured piece.

If anyone has a 56 cm bike they are interested in selling, please get in touch. If the worst thing happens, I will be out there with my 29 pound mountain bike, hopefully burning off extra calories that I need to lose.
