Fellow Racers,
Here is what is going on with the Elkhorn Classic Stage Race held in Baker City, Oregon June 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 2003.
Registration: Each category is limited to 100 riders for 2003.
The first year of the race, 2002, the participation numbers were as follows:
Pro 1,2 86.
Men 3,4 100 with a 23 rider waiting list.
Masters 40+ 87.
Women 83.
So far in 2003 the Men's 3/4 field is over 35% full with strong registrations in all of the other available categories. Do not wait until the last minute to register if you would like to race in the 2003 Elkhorn Classic Stage Race. See full registration details at www.elkhornclassic.com Final opportunity to register is June 14th, 2003 or until fields are full.
FAMILY FUN: There will be a parade Saturday June 21st in downtown Baker City before the criterium racing. Bring the kids for this small town celebration.
SHIMANO YOUTH SERIES: After the parade put the kids in the kids' races that will be immediately after the parade. All participants will receive medals and T-Shirts as this race is part of the Shimano Youth Series. Details to follow on web page. Briefly we will have four categories for kids riding with training wheels through 12 years of age. We will probably hold another race for 12-14 but that will not be part of the Shimano series.
Baker City is looking into holding a fireworks display after the criterium racing on Saturday. Hopefully that will happen and would be another fun activity for the whole family.
