Rise to the top!
In its third year, the Franz Bakery Criterium is an 8-corner criterium located in Portland's Central Eastside. The wide-open streets provide lots of open space to move around in the field. The 2012 criterium will be part of the Women's Cat 4/5 Series.

The event features a challenging wide-open course, unique points race format, $5 lap prizes for Cat 1-3 Men, Cat 1-3 Women, Masters 40+/50+ and Men Cat 3. The event also features a Kiddie Krit for all participants 12 and under.

Every participant will receive a prize provided by Franz Bakery. Every rider walks away with something at this race thanks to Franz Bakery.

Race Format
This criterium will be scored as a points race. The winner of each lap will receive two points. On the final lap, the top 15 riders will earn points in the final sprint (30-25-22-19-17-15-13-11-9-7-5-4-3-2-1). There is also $5 per lap prize to the winner of each lap for the Masters 40+/50+, Men Cat 3Women 1-3, Men Cat 1-3. It pays to be aggressive at this race. The rider with the most points, wins the race.

Cat 4/5 Women's Series
The 2012 Franz Bakery Criterium is part of the Women's Cat 4/5 Series. This series honors the late Norman Babcock, of Eugene, a strong supporter of women's cycling who passed away in 2008. The goal of the series is to offer women opportunities and encouragement to try various kinds of road racing.

Upper Echelon Women's Criterium Clinic
The Upper Echelon Women's Cycling Team will be hosting a free criterium clinic to all women who would like to come and learn how to race from experienced racers. The clinic is free to all participants.

Prizes (prizes are minimums)
Over $4,000 in cash/merchandise, three deep in each category (5 deep for Senior Women and Men Cat 1-3).

The Masters 40+/50+, Men's Cat 3, Women's 1-3 and Senior Men's race will feature a $5/lap prize in addition to lap primes which will be announced prior to the start of each race. The winner of each lap will receive $5 and two points.

Membership & Licenses
OBRA membership required for all riders. Single race memberships are available for $5.00. Season OBRA memberships are available for $25.00.
Helmets are required.

Course
A wide-open 8-corner course over 1.13km. Two shallow inclines will bring out the burn over 40-feet of verticle climbing per lap. The course is located in NE Portland near Franz's Bakery.
The start/finish line and registration will be located at NE 10th and NE Flanders.
Wheel pit is wheels in/wheels out (no neutral wheels will be provided).

Take I-5 South to exit 300B toward US-26 E/OR-99E/OMSI/Oregon City
Keep left at fork following signs for Oregon City and merge onto SE Morrison Bridge
Take first left onto SE Grand Ave
Turn right onto Couch Ave.
>From the South (Salem, OR)

Travel north on I-5
Take exit 300 for I-84 E/US-30 E toward Portland Airport/The Dalles
Keep right at the fork, follow signs for Omsi/Central Eastside Industrial District and merge onto SE Yamhill St
Turn right at SE 3rd Ave
Take the 1st left onto SE Taylor St
Turn left at the 2nd cross street onto SE Grand Ave
Turn right at E Burnside St
Turn left at NE 11th Ave

OBRA and the organizers of this race do not provide insurance coverage for injuries that occur at the race. The costs related to those injuries are the responsibility of the individual participant.
