short track champs

I rode the course last night and agree with Ron and Brooke -- advantage
mountain bike. It's a fun, twisty, and somewhat technical course, and I
lost count of how many banked turns! Try to get a few laps in, because
there are many spots with different lines (good for passing). Whatever
bike you choose, go a bit high with the tire pressure (they did a great job
marking the larger rocks). For SS, I ended up with 34-18 on a 29er. The
guys and gals who podium will be definitely be "REAL" mountain bikers, even
more so if they do it on a cross bike!

I rode this with my cross bike last week.

Verdict: It's doable but slow on the CX. I don't see any section of the
course being and advantage for a cross bike and most areas it will be a
disadvantage. If you have a mtb, race that. If you only have a cross bike,
come on out anyway.

And I didn't flat, Ron.

I know Schamp is busy shufflin the the race cards, but he and others have been hard at work getting the short track champs course ready at Cascade Locks EASY Climb location. He will probably post some updates soon.
I have personally removed a large number of blackberries and made the single track sections much better. This is a REAL short track course that will really test people. Not much climbing, but will feel like it at race pace. The water in the bay on the East side of course is very tempting. So much that I now have a sunburned back and head!
The Port is stepping up to make the venue very nice, including mowing the area down by the rocky beach so people can camp there. NWTA is having a camp out with movies on Saturday night. I think they are Cross and MTB movies! Family friendly I would assume. Stars, campfires, portapottys etc. I am sure there will be good swag for the raffle from Kris as well on Race Day. Except for the junctions, the course is marked right now with red and yellow tape on both sides. It will be fully marked on Saturday as that will be the set up day.
This place is easy to access from the metro area. It takes me about 25 more minutes to get there than it does for me to go out to the Scappoose Trails....and I live way out North. I sure hope some people come to support, The OBRA Champs, The people of Cascade Locks (who are being amazing with support), sponsor...SDS Lumber which is letting us use some of their property, Northwest Trail Alliance (who has started these trails which will continue to grow and connect to others in the area), The other Sponsors and Kris Schamp (whos commitment to our sport is worth supporting!).
I think if you are observant you might also notice a few area that you might just encounter at the September Double Cross. I noticed something that looked like either the death drop of the challenge of a lifetime run-up (old man talking here).
Come on out and have some fun for either two days or even just race day.
A cross bike would work on this, but a mtb bike will be super fun!!
