Championships, my 10 cents

How so Mike?

This is a solution that could work, but too many people throw their
hands up in
the air at the first sign of a hiccup.

Just my 40.02, right or wrong.

We have tried limiting the dates for the Championship events. I made it
more difficult to find race organizers and limited race venues.

My guess is attendance issues stem from there being so many races on the
calendar. Even so, how about choosing a date for each of the OBRA champs
that remains the same year to year to help with date conflicts? Assuming
this helps the promoters make it work, and doesn't make it harder. Just too
complicated ?

We tried this idea a few years back. If memory serves, the goal was to:
1 - Have all of the champ events in the latter half-of the season
(Who has heard of having the RR Champ crowned in May when spring in
Oregon SUCKS?)
2 - Plan the calendar around the Champ events and then let the other
events fall into place
3 - No more than one champ on a given weekend (the exception being the
State RR)

This lasted one (1) season.

Since many of the championships seem to be a little off season and/or farther than many people want to drive, how about designating a traditionally well attended race as the championship event. Say Sisters Stampede for MTB XC and a Cross Crusade or GPTB race for cross, for example.
