charge the $5 and make a few bucks. i for one, appreciated the bike washing a couple of seasons ago. it was great to drop off my bike, change clothes, go pick up my bike. i think they only charged $3 but i always tipped a couple and i would've gladly paid a couple more. don't be ashamed to make a buck either. you're out there all day and probably gonna have to deal with a few guys who'll make you day suck, such is the nature of service business. so make it worth your while. i remember that season there being a lot of guys complaining about the $3 so if the promoter hires you and it's free for all, it just means that all those guys who wouldn't normally pay will just clog up the lines for those of us who are willing to pay for a service
