Thanks for posting that Ron,

Let's hope it's a short closure.

And yes, PLEASE, everyone join NWTA! Every single time I've been up at Sandy Ridge this summer I've been stunned at how much work has been done up there. Let's take the Sandy Ridge and Stub examples and keep that positive momentum going to other potential Portland MTB riding spots like Riverview!

Bless Powell Butte, Forest Park and Lewis and Clarks hearts for some super close riding, but they do not have the mixed techy single-track like Scappy.

This is one way for us to continue to work with the landowner to re-build and maintain destroyed or existing trails. We have a good relationship because most people have respected their closures. Lets continue on this positive path.

For those of you who enjoy riding out at the Scappoose trails....some changes coming. An official post from NWTA will be posted on the website in a few days.

On or before (possibly by this coming Monday) Sept. 1, 2012 the trails on the NORTH SIDE will be closed. The duration of the closure is not known. The report I received is the closure is for road building and maintenance.
The SOUTH SIDE is still closed (although I am pretty sure they have finished harvesting), as they have not finished all their business they over there. This means that for a period (not sure how long) BOTH SIDES might be closed.
We know these trails are used a great deal (even though they are not Sandy Ridge, Wilson River, Syncline or what have you) because they are the closest real single-track to the metro area. Bless Powell Butte, Forest Park and Lewis and Clarks hearts for some super close riding, but they do not have the mixed techy single-track like Scappy.
At any rate. The two most important things to remember is
#1) If you show up and the area is marked Closed to Public Entry, please do not go in. This is one way for us to continue to work with the landowner to re-build and maintain destroyed or existing trails. We have a good relationship because most people have respected their closures. Lets continue on this positive path.
#2) is to join NWTA to give it a continued stronger voice dealing with access issues. A trail connecting from the Forest Park / Metro land on North side of Newberry Rd. is not out of the question. Just need to keep pushing.
Maybe you can get a ride in out there before it is posted and I hope the closure is short.
More info. (I will post to OBRA) when I get it or keep checking the NWTA website.
One last thing...remember to park safely out there and be courteous to people using the roadway.
Thanks all for helping us have places to ride our mountain and cross bikes on surfaces other than pavement.
