Okay, so I'm sure a marketing person would tell me to send these out one by one, but I'm so excited I'll send 'em all out together. And them maybe one at a time. Join our facebook event page to get more updates: www.facebook.com/events/415467091832745/
For the Juniors: We have a full weekend of Junior events. Sunday is race #1 of the Oregon JCS, but we will also be following the JCS schedule on Saturday and thus will have a dedicated Junior time slot and starts. We'll be running our always-popular kiddie cross "race" BOTH days (just for you, Geri). Each participant will get a medal and a cookie from Packer's Cookie Stop. And to top it all off, the Bend Endurance Academy will be holding a two-day cross camp in conjunction with our event. Bill Warburton from the BEA sent out an email with info about the camp. If you missed it, let me know and I can forward it. As soon as he has their facebook page up, I'll link to it
For the A's (and other capital-letter Serious Racers): For the past ten years, our dates have competed with the StarCrossed race in Seattle. Well, not this year. Sure, you could drive several hours to race at Steiliacoom on Sunday, but what about Saturday? Why not make it a weekend closer to home and earn some brownie points with your spouse? You won't need a USAC license ad our race is five bucks cheaper.
Prizes: We have some great prizes this year. We'll have fresh Gorge fruit on hand for everyone, and medals and cookies for the kids. For the rest of the category racing, we will once again offer our popular "prize tubs." In them will be gift certificates from Double Mountain Brewery and Taproom, Waucoma Bookstore, G. Willikers Toy Shoppe, and Silverado Jewelry Gallery. The top riders from each category for the two day event will also take home one of our cool Double Cross trophies.
Camping: You are welcome to camp Friday and Saturday night. Camping will be allowed in the parking area or the lower beach area. Check the map for details. NO FIRES ALLOWED. Fire danger is extremely high so please be careful. If you camp in the lower beach area (very pleasant) your access will be blocked by the courses during racing.
Team Tents: I've had a spot on the finishing straight mowed for team tents, but really you're welcome anywhere on the course. Please remember, NO FIRES.
Other activities: There's a lot going on in Cascade Locks and the rest of the Gorge. You can check out the sternwheeler and there's even a Shakespeare in the Park event happening. Look at the Port of Cascade Locks website for more info. Stevenson, WA, is just across the Bridge of the Gods and you stay or dine at the Bonneville Resort or Skamania Lodge. If you head into Hood River, there are plenty of restaurants and lots of shopping. It's also Pear Festival and you can go drive the Fruit Loop or take the kids to the corn maze at Rasmussen Farms.
Cross Crusade Call-ups: There are three races in September that will count for Crusade call-up
points: Double Cross #1, Double Cross #2, and the Battle at Barlow.
That's right, you have doublethe reasons to attend the Double Cross weekend. Points will be given to the top ten riders in each field (except beginners). The five riders
in each category with the most points will be called to the line at the
first Cross Crusade race on October 7th at Alpenrose.
Hope to see you next weekend! (and don't forget Het Meer, the High Cascades 24, and that other little race in Bend this week)
