cx tire recomendations

Yeah. I understand Hutchinson actually is nothing more than a puppy...er...tire mill. They care nothing about the breed, just the $$$. I even heard some of their tires were seized by officials because of neglect. Not being properly cared for because they did not adhere to strict tire breed specs. So sad. I do think they are up for adoption now to rollers who would offer a good home.
Speaking of ugly to some. About two months ago I saw a BMX bike that had desert camo pattern tires. Not just on the sidewalls, but all across the knobs. Might be ugly to some, but I thought they looked pretty neat (for fun). If the right size, would look neat on a Cross or Mountain bike.

My favorite tubeless tire is still the Hutchinson Bulldog for all conditions. I have never had a tire clear out and give me traction as well.

I rode the clincher version of the Clement PDX in a couple of races last year... before that bike and those tires were stolen... and they were my favorite cx tire yet. HUGE volume, felt great at low pressure. I have yet to replace them, but I definitely will.

I just glued on Clement PDXs this year. Raced once and had four CX practice rides on them. So far absolutely bomber tire. Excellent traction, low rolling resistance. I'm told (can't verify yet, though...) that they have good mud handling capabilities as well. I think that so far; they are well worth the price.

Hey y'all,

So I'm finally getting into cx this year. I'm working on a used cx bike that needs tires.

Whats a good recomendation for a beginner that weighs 130lbs. Oh yea, clincher.

Also 32c vs 35c.

Keep in mind that I'm only looking for one set to race this year.

So far I'm looking at the Clement PDX or the Conti cyclo x-king.

Thanks,

While we are on the subject - how about CX tires with truly "huge"
volume (~38mm body)? Specifically something that works tubeless? Anybody?

I've been running the Specialized Borough Pro for several years and it's
a great choice for all around CX riding (not racing). Pavement, gravel,
trails ride all really nice and floaty. Unfortunately, when I tried them
tubeless they have a problem with delaminating the tread from the
casing. So, I'm looking for something BIG, supple and that will work
tubeless in the pressure range of 35-50psi.

Specialized Capt. is indeed a great tire. Michelin Mud2 is also very good
all-arounder. Not sure which I like better. I've not tried the new Conti
tires but I'd really like to. The "Twister Pro" was terrible.

Go for the fatter size. Softer ride for you.
