Re: Sand or no sand at Canby CX / Het Meer thoughts

Sand? If it is there either ride or run.
I think the reason it seems more people crashed is not because of time of year as much as more people attended the race, they knew about the sand and guess what they took pictures of....??? People crashing in the sand. It is like the drop off the dike at Barton. People gather where the action might (or is guaranteed) to take place. And again....what gets posted are the crashes more than clean rides.
By the way folks. Here is one for discussion...
I watched Ryan Trebon and Barry Wicks ride the sand 5 laps. All five times Trebon was hands on the hoods. Wicks was three times on the flats and two on the hoods. Anybody make it through the entry and entire length riding the drops? If so I missed it. I rode the hoods like I always have done.
just my two cents.

I crashed hard during a warm up ride in the sand. I hit it fast and thought I had the front end "light"...not enough I guess because the front wheel dove in deep and I end-o'd violently! It really hurt and still does. Like Ryan said, I think it was softer and gooshier. Usually I can do this. I should have checked it out before diving in!

I voted no sand too. I've had my fill already this year!

I'd personally love to see some climbs if possible. Maybe more creative obstacles.

In regard to Het Meer this year... I am amazed how many people crashed hard down that sand bank. Wasn't that way more than last year? I wonder if by moving the race earlier in the year that beach is much drier and gooshier than last year when it was in mid october?

I voted no sand at canby, only because we already have upcoming double cx 2, and zandercross which will have it. In particular, lets ask the question after zander. I think I'll be sanded out by then.
