FS: BURLEY TANDEM LARGE /MED OR LARGE/SMALL?

Great tandem. Sturdy / stiff. and I have it setup quite well. link to
Craigslist post at bottom.
-36 hole g6000 rims (~deep v 24mm wide) . internal nipples with ss washers
to spread out spoke load
plus deep v has way better heat sink than a box section or even disc brake
(well unless you have those huge heavy tandem specific discs... : ) . We
have safely come down Mcnamee Rd on just the rim brakes. ( but warning
YMMV! )
-8 speed sti rear shifter. Barcon for the front. The shifting is pretty
much flawless. good even spread on the back and two chainring up front
cover pretty much everything .. 8 speed shifting is just a little more
reliable and more forgiving on tolerances..
-V-brakes (much much better than cantilever especially for rear wheel on
tandem). A custom made "travel agent" with a over 2:1 ratio so that the
captain doesn't bottom out on the brake lever!
- The bottom brackets both have oversized bearings. I changed out the
spindles and played with cranks for minimum Q-factor and proper chain
line.
-Yes you could race on this tandem. but its not that light, we loved it
for commuting to work, and just cruising around town. The kids love
riding on it also ! You could save a bit of weight by just changing out
stems and seatposts. But i just never bothered...

We got a fairly good deal on something more lightweight. But i can tell
you with certainty that Burley definitely had the steering figured out !
The burley handled quite well especially low speed, say going across the
steel bridge and up the ramps, sure footed and stable and comfortable. Our
new tandem(to remain unnamed), who's steering is downright scary and imho
dangerous, is getting a new fork to match the Burley's trail.

You could buy an older Santana or similar, that I also see on Craigslist
for about the same price. But I can almost guarantee you will shortly need
better wheels, different shifting and need to mess with bottom brackets.
Save your self that trouble and the $500 or so that that will take and buy
this tandem.
Please ask any questions.
