Candi- Thanks for your response to what might have been a silly
question and while I am at it thanks again for everything that you and
Mike do for OBRA! I am a new comer to the OBRA organization (last year
my first race at PIR, haven't raced anywhere else yet) and I am always
impressed with what you guys have managed to put together and run.
A quick summery of the "catagory changing" question might go like this:
5 to 4- after your first race
4 to 3- after a certain amount of experience
3 to 2- top six finish in a field of 50+
2 to 1-top six finish in a field of 50+
Once you change no changing back without consent of OBRA
More stupid questions follow:
do you "ask" to move up or do you just do it when you pass the
threshold?
when you pass the threshold you must move up- true or false?
does OBRA discourage "self switching (esp.downward)" by DSQ?
Thanks again, sorry to bug you but a lot of us newbies don't really
know how this works.

?OBRA Upgrade Rules
Road upgrades
Only road races and criteriums count toward upgrading for road
events.? Not time trials, or handicap races?
From Cat 5 to Cat 4
1. Experience in any mass start event
From a Cat 4 to a Cat 3
One of the following or any combination
1. 10 races
2. 1 full season
3. 15 points earned by placing in the top 6 (7,5,4,3,2,1)
4. Any combination of the above
From a Cat 3 to a Cat 2
25 points earned by placing in the top 6 (7,5,4,3,2,1) of Cat 3 events
with a minimum field of??5?0 riders
From a Cat 2 to a Cat 1
30 points earned by placing in the top 6 (7,5,4,3,2,1) of Cat 2 events
with a minimum limit of 50 riders
Juniors and Masters must earn their points in Category events
Is it totally up to each racer to decide??
?
Points are listed above?
How about when a 3 want to race with the 4s (going back down)??
?
You cannot ride in the 4's if you are a 3.? It is very rare that we
will downgrade a 3 to a 4 since the basic criteria is experience?.
Is it OK to change from one event to another???
No absolutely not?
If one needs to perform well (finish high) to advance must one also
get dropped a lot to regress??
No if you are a 2?and ask to return to a 3 we do that pretty much?upon
request.?
Upgrading and Downgrading guidelines for road and mountain bike racing
will be published. where are these guidelines published??
I will get the mtn bike people to post their guidelines.
?
Hope this helps
