A few items re: first aid at bike races:



- There is not usually going to be any ice at a bike race. The first aid

provider is not likely to have ice. Although ice is a good thing to put on

acute injuries it is never a critical item. Providing ice to all races

would be a major pain since it needs to be picked up for each event,

generally will not be used, needs to be insulated, costs money, etc. If

anyone disagrees with these statements I will interpret this as volunteering

to be the person to coordinate the bringing of ice to all bike races.



- There is no requirement that first aid be provided at bike races. This is

done as a courtesy. The cost of doing so is carried by the race organizer

and OBRA. Do not expect that there will always be a first aid provider. Be

prepared.



- Be courteous to the first aid provider. (Someone this weekend was not.)

This also goes for all the other race personnel; officials, registration,

corner marshals, etc. It is not easy to find people who are willing to

stand around in the rain all day watching you ride your bike. Contrary to

what you might think, you are not the center of the universe.
