Looking forward to it actually....wanted to earn my upgrade first, which I've finally done just in time for Alpenrose.  Whew!  I'm looking forward to getting smoked by you guys.

I'm really interested in that PDX tubular/Major Tom setup....those rims sound pretty rad.  Need to get those custom built somewhere?  Bah, who am I kidding....probably just wait for some hand-me-downs on craigslist like usual.

Well, that doesn't sound fun...  Time for you to Cat up, get technical with your equipment, and start finishing mid-pack...

I raced Barlow on Stans ZTR 335 with Mud 2's. Ran about ~35 lbs in rear
maybe 32 ish in front. I weigh 155#. Had a few hits on corners bumpy corner
that felt like it was close to rolling but never did. I have found much
fewer issues with mine running a bit more pressure (33-38 lbs). In the past
when I tried to get all techy and run really low pressures I had more
problems and issues (burping/rolling). I would rather take a few bumps to
ensure that I finish the race. Never raced CX on tubulars so I have no
comparison.

Not Barlow....but Fazio for me! Yes Ron Strasser (about 130 lbs and probably not high enough pressure...do not know how much was in tire) had a TUBELESS failure.....but
I believe it was because of the tire, not the rim. Front wheel. The rim is a Stan’s 340. All of the essential /standard set-up for tubeless. The tire is the PDX cross. It is not a Tubeless ready tire, but I had been riding it on my rain bike (which I decided to remove fenders and race). I had never had an issue with the tire on some rough terrain, but had not “pushed it” as we do in racing. During open lap time I dropped over the roller below the dinosaur back and it did not burp...that baby latex-ed the course! So along came the tube and higher pressure and all was good. I will not run that tire tubeless again for racing. Do they make a PDX in tubeless?
Matt.... The wider rims might be the key for you. I am light and the Bulldogs rock on the 340s, but I also still have a set of the old 355s which are wider. Even though a little more weight, they are just amazing rims! Not sure what the difference is between the Alpha 440 and their Crest rims, but I have heard the Crest rims are super light and give you the width (but no rim brake surface) . I personally would look at them for a disc cross bike if I weighed more.
Have a cheeseburger for me...........my Dr. says no for me.

Yeah, I'll bite, I'm a little bummed... I ran tubeless at Barlow, mast B's. Last lap, swoopy right hand corner with the little berm, before pedaling back up to the 3 pack. I came in a little hot, rolled the tire, burped the front empty, went down (like alot of others...). Rode it in flat, but lost about 30 places (and my chance at a call up for CC, which I was really close to getting...). I think I was running 6th or 7th at the time and about to take one more guy down.

I was running about 32psi front, 36 rear, Clement PDX's on Corsa Concepts 1.2acr's, with a stans conversion (three layers of tape and the rim strip). I'm about 195# (200 on a good cheeseburger day...) I actually added a bit of air for this race cause I know it's bumpy and off camber. This is the second failure this season that has cost me a good result. I might be just a little to tubby for the tubeless... I might reconsider this setup and pony up for some tubulars or maybe try Stans new Alpha 400 rim. All my bikes, road, mtb's, cx's, even commuter are tubeless. But only in CX do I have these issues. But, I don't have this issue with my SSCX which is running Easton 29er rims with last years Bulldogs, similar pressures...

I tried tubeless cross last year. I ride tubeless MTB and road, which are both great - no problems.
For cross, I first tried PDX Crusades on Ksyrium's and then on Stans A340 wheels. I weigh 155# and ran as low as 28psi to a high of about 38psi. Bottom line - although I rarely burped in training, I always burped in races. Never had one go completely flat or come off the rim, but it was disconcerting to say the least.
I know several people that run the Hutchinson tubeless specific cross tires, and those do seem to work ok.
I switched to PDX Crusade tubulars on Velocity Major Tom rims and it was a revelation. With the tubeless setup at reasonably low tire pressures, they feel really squishy and squirley compared to the tubulars. On handling alone I'd go tubular, not to mention my tubular setup didn't cost any more than tubeless. Since the Crusades are tubeless tubulars, I run a little Stans sealant in them for thorn protection. My 10 cents.
