Re: Advice for a total klutz? - THANKS!

Weekend before last, I finally went out to Stub Stewart with two
friends. We had a blast exploring the mountain bike area, the dirt and
gravel roads, etc. It was just challenging enough to be fun, without
being so challenging that I felt like I needed to get off my bike too
much. Also, I didn't fall and break anything (body or bike!), which was
definitely an added bonus.

So, thanks again to everyone who made suggestions for this total klutz!

Susan

Wow, THANKS! I'm overwhelmed with the suggestions I received off-list.
So many good ideas. For anyone else looking for an easy place to ride,
or perhaps someplace to take your kids, here's some of the suggestions
I've received.

Close by:
Hagg Lake Trail
Powell Butte
Stub Stewart
Firelanes/roads in Forest Park, particularly Salzman, Firelanes 3, 1 &
5.
Dixie Mountain (up to Skyline from Jackson School/Shadybrook) Dutch
Canyon (out of Scappoose) Jarrell Road (off of Mason Hill Road) Nehalem
River highway (off of highway 26, 55miles from Hillsboro on your way to
Seaside: Elsie turn-off) Hayward Road off of highway 26 (near Manning,
connecting to Cedar canyon into Banks & Highway 47 or NW Parson road
connecting to highway 6 near Kansas City) Sandy Ridge trail system

Farther afield:
Phil's Trail in Bend
Kenbel & 8 Mile Trails in the gorge
Gravel roads around Mosier/The Dalles
Rail trail from Lyle, WA to Klickitat
Lacamas Lake trail system

It was also suggested I check the trails wiki on nw-trails.org. Didn't
know about that resource, so thanks!

Susan

I have a beautiful mountain bike. Unfortunately, the bike has me for an
owner. I'm a total klutz. Nonetheless, I'd like to ride that bike some
this fall/winter. But I need some suggestions for really easy trails
(other than Leif Erikson). Really easy. I don't mind hills (I'm plenty
strong) but I have near-zero technical skills. Or maybe what I'm really
looking for is very low traffic gravel or logging roads. I live on
the west side, but don't mind tossing my bike in the back of my pick-up
to drive someplace to ride.

Ideas?

Thanks!
