Hey Shane,

Agreed.

I'm more a fan of the digest concept tho -- since I've gotten pretty good at the high-level scan for tibits of interest. And it minimizes the item count in all my inboxes.

With that seemingly vestigial "OBRA Race" list hanging out there, it seemed like maybe things had started moving towards splitting things out in the past and then got shut down. (??) Having Race vs. Gear vs. Chat digests seems an easy tweak, and would help those who don't want all the different bits in one soup bowl.

I can understand the desire to split things out. But, if you just set up a
few filters, and use an email browser that threads conversations together,
it's dead simple to eject cruft you don't want to see. I simply put
everything OBRA into a "Lists->OBRA" folder. Then anything with "FS", "for
sale", "WTB", and "wanted" (case insensitive) goes to "Lists->OBRA->Gear"
sub folder. That with the threading - it takes all of 5 minutes to sort
out 4 or 5 days (i.e. when I go away on vacation or for work) of email -
which often amounts to 300 to 400 messages.

Generally most OBRA-ites are pretty good about tagging the subject with an
"FS" or "WTB" (also fairly good with "OT" as well) - this cuts down things
quickly.

If you get sick of the "lance" threads, that's where the threaded
conversations make it easy to select and delete 10 or 12 posts in one go

Hey OBRA-land,

As a relative newbie to OBRA -- and thus a frequent lurker but reluctant poster on OBRA Chat -- I must say I enjoy all the threads: sandbagging, Lance, you name it.

For the chatty, I say: post more.
For the bored, I say: use that title field. Just don't read the threads on topics you don't care for.

In the meantime, I have some basic questions:
1) Although there appears to be a separate "OBRA Race" list intended for "race flyers, announcements, results, no chat", not all the race-specific posts (results especially) seem to get posted there. Instead, they get posted here, betwixt Lance and such. Seems like some "lane discipline" is in order?
2) One of the great things about the "Chat" list is all the great gear listings. But wouldn't these benefit from their own "Gear" list? Seems like such a no brainer -- was it tried before with disastrous results?

Seems like "Chat" needs to be left for just that.
