Lets not forget after the passing of the family patriarch the Kadanah family chose to continue the legacy of community involvement instead of opting for the money as many have.

I second the purchase of Alpenrose milk/products, it's the least we can do. In fact, I try to purchase products that support cycling in general, I'm just bummed that Sierra Nevada no longer has a team :{ .

There was somewhat of a cross course type "thing" out there. It existed of
some existing trails, little double track / gravel and through the rough
grass and trees affair. I rode it once with some friends. I am not sure
how long the course was. All in all it was a good workout and if still
there is good practice surfaces for people who ride the road most of the
year. I am not sure exactly what is going on out at that location. I do
know volunteers and different agencies are moving forward with making it a
place for both foot and bicycle adventure. Really would not work (from my
perspective) for a race venue unless most folks rode or took max. But maybe
just a place to ride and practice.

Wasn't there some talk last year about that chunk of ODOT land along 205
being made into a permanent 'cross venue? I doubt we could have actual
races there because of the lack of parking if nothing else, but still.

We are extremely lucky to have a venue like Alpenrose. I only buy Alpenrose
milk now in support. I hope others have done the same. And my family drinks
a lot of milk.

There was an article recently in cyclocross magazine about permanent venues
being built around the country. It would be great to figure out a way to do
this here. Seems like if any city had one, it would be us. I realize there
are cost considerations, but if the city could make money on it, it would be
great revenue.

Wasn't there some talk last year about that chunk of ODOT land along 205 being made into a permanent 'cross venue? I doubt we could have actual races there because of the lack of parking if nothing else, but still.

There was an article recently in cyclocross magazine about permanent venues being built around the country. It would be great to figure out a way to do this here. Seems like if any city had one, it would be us. I realize there are cost considerations, but if the city could make money on it, it would be great revenue.

And..............Groups like NWTA (if the membership is even larger) have
more clout with entities with regard to getting a place for a permanent
Cyclocross venue. Just think of them as "Milk for your off road
experience".
Between them and OBRA....(with the thousands of people racing cross and many
more wanting off-road riding) it would seem we could not not just approach,
but strongly suggest that a Cross venue available year-round would be
appropriate use of green space.

I second the purchase of Alpenrose milk/products, it's the least we can do. In fact, I try to purchase products that support cycling in general, I'm just bummed that Sierra Nevada no longer has a team :{ .

I want to also give a huge thanks to Alpenrose Dairy for hosting us
for the past six weeks, 21st Avenue Bicycles, OBRA officials,
volunteers and last, but certainly not least, Tony and Joe for
throwing down what is by far the best series all year. It's just
become better each year and we even got to race 6 times this year.
Thanks to all of you for making it happen. It's the best way to spend
a Wednesday night in the muddy dark!

With regard to claims like that (but not knowing the actual facts), I wonder
if the people claiming the "still damage" have a subjective rather than
objective point of view about the Presidio in this case. One can always
find negative or positive regarding most things in life.
The race could have done a huge amount of damage or not. Grass / lawn
usually responds pretty well when properly tended to after assault. Other
stuff could have happened in SF.

There was a big-dollar CX race at the Presidio of San Francisco one year.
They were never allowed to do it again, and the Presidio people claimed that
there was still damage two years later (although I couldn't find it).

I have said it before. Blind Date at the Dairy is the most unique cross
series in obra.
I would think that should be a challenge to other promoters or promoter
wannabes.
Timing.....
Not to be Debbie Downer folks...(and I am not a fan of dust...trust me)
BUT...
One of the reasons Cross venues are allowed to use the place is that Winter
and Spring have a way of "repairing the damage done" by hordes of bikes in
both dry and wet conditions.
Some of the venues even charge the promoters for this wear and tear on the
place. Just ask the Crusade.
That said racing in the mud is way more fun than dry, dusty conditions.
Have fun out there.

The only downside to later in the season is the time change and the
difficulty in set up (I presume of course). Earlier in the season and they
get more riders because there is more daylight throughout the races. I know
it's not "blind" yet, but more riders means more dollars and more dollars
means more infrastructure. So later in the season, we have even better
conditions when it does get wet.

Better yet.... "March out of Darkness". Cross events beginning in March when
the time changes back. Ahh yeah!!

Yes, later in the season please. I'm still getting over the damage the
dust inflicted on my lungs and the mud is amazing fun.
